Priority Technologies, Inc. teaches one of first
courses for WebSphere Studio Application Developer

OMAHA, Nebraska
Priority Technologies, Inc. (PTI), is among the first in the nation to provide a complete course for IBM's new WebSphere Studio Application Developer (WSAD) tool.

WSAD is replacing Visual Age for Java and WebSphere Studio to become the most complete J2EE integrated development environment (IDE). WSAD combines the features of Visual Age for Java and WebSphere Studio to offer powerful integrated tools, editors, and wizards. WSAD allows rapid development of all of the J2EE artifacts (HTML files, JSP, Java Classes and Servlets, EJB beans, XML deployment descriptors) in addition to powerful Web Services development tools.

PTI started developing the "Web Development with WSAD" course in August and taught the course for the first time December 10-14 as part of a customized software development package.

The objective of PTI's "Web Development with WSAD" course is to give students a solid understanding of the WSAD development environment with a focus on web page development. Course topics include:

  • Navigating the workbench
  • Perspectives, views, and editors
  • Customizing the workbench
  • Refactoring, searching, and using the scrapbook
  • WSAD wizards
  • Database and data store administration
  • Server configuration
  • Team development using CVS
  • Running and debugging applications
  • Profiling applications
  • WSAD web development environment
  • HTML & JSP development
  • Cascading Style Sheets
  • Servlet development
  • Web application testing using server tools

PTI's instructors practice the technologies they teach 80 to 85 percent of their time. Each instructor averages 2.5 certifications and has over 18 months experience developing with the technologies they teach.

IBM's WSAD
base platform is an open source initiative. IBM has donated the platform code, approximately a $40M development effort, to the open source community to encourage a whole new way of building tools for the Internet. New tools can now just plug into this common base in much the same way as plugins for a web server. IBM has been working with many of the major tooling vendors to provide a number of additional products that will plug into the WSAD platform.
