Course Introduction:

WebSphere Studio Application Developer (WSAD) is replacing Visual Café™ to become the most complete J2EE integrated development environment (IDE).

This intensive five-day hands-on course is aimed at getting Visual Café developers quickly up to speed on developing Web applications with IBM's WebSphere Studio Application Developer (WSAD). Emphasis will be place on the feature similarity and difference between Visual Café and WSAD. WSAD offers powerful integrated tools, editors, and wizards that allow for rapid development of all of the J2EE artifacts (HTML files, JSP, Java Classes and Servlets, EJB beans, XML deployment descriptors) in addition to powerful Web Services development tools. The instructors for this course know both the Visual Café and WSAD IDE.

Units Included:

WS2001 Introduction to WebSphere Studio Application Developer (WSAD) - This unit introduces the basic aspects and functions of the WSAD Workbench, which is the user interface for Application Developer. The unit helps students get up to speed quickly on navigating the workbench, understanding perspectives, customizing their workbench environment, and using the WSAD tools and wizards.

WS2002 Advanced WSAD Development - This unit focuses on more advanced features and tools offered by WSAD. The students will create a simple Java Application and learn how to develop, debug, share their files, and test their code using WSAD. They will also learn how to manage data sources and profile their applications.

WS2003 Developing JSP and Servlets with WSAD - This unit covers the different web tools, such as the PageDesigner, offered by WSAD used to rapidly develop web applications. The students are guided through a web application that consists of HTML files, JSPs, Cascading Style Sheets and Servlets that demonstrate how to develop, debug and test their code. At the end of the course, their knowledge will be tested through a lab exercise where they will develop a web application on their own.

• Understanding of Object-Oriented Concepts and Methodology
• Working knowledge of Introduction to Java
• Some knowledge of JavaBeans, Java Server Pages, and Servlets
• Previous experience with J2EE IDE helpful
